Foreign Weather Privacy Policy

Overview

Foreign Weather shows weather forecasts for cities worldwide and displays temperatures in both Fahrenheit and Celsius. The app has no ads and no analytics or tracking of any kind.

Optional account sync

If you choose to sign in, Foreign Weather stores your saved places, home city, and unit preference so you can restore them on another device. Location permission, forecast caches, and purchase entitlement state are not part of the account sync payload.

Sign in can use Apple, Google, or a username/password account. Apple or Google sign-in may provide Firebase Auth with an email address or Apple private relay address for authentication. Username/password accounts use a private synthetic email namespace instead of asking for your real email address. Because no recovery email is collected for a username account, it cannot be recovered if its password is lost.

Location data

If you choose to use the current-location feature, the app requests your device location for one purpose only: fetching the forecast for where you are. Location access is optional and is never used in the background.

To return a forecast, the app sends location coordinates to the Foreign Weather weather proxy, which forwards them to Apple WeatherKit. The proxy may use coordinates as an edge cache key for up to 15 minutes to speed up responses. Cached forecasts are not linked to an account, device identifier, or place name, and request URLs are excluded from retained Worker invocation logs. City search requests are sent to Open-Meteo geocoding.

Stored data

The app stores your last selected location and a cached forecast on your device to improve startup speed and support limited offline viewing. Favorite places and display preferences are stored on your device and are synced only if you sign in.

Account deletion

If you create or sign in to a sync account, you can delete it from inside the app. Open Settings, go to account sync, and tap Delete account. The app asks you to reauthenticate, then removes the Firebase account and synced Foreign Weather data from the developer-managed sync system.

Apple-linked accounts revoke the Apple OAuth access token during deletion. Local on-device settings and cached forecasts can be removed by deleting the app from the device.

Purchases

The one-time Unlimited unlock is processed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play), with receipt validation by RevenueCat. Only purchase receipt data — purchase identifiers and transaction metadata — is processed by those providers. Saved places and account sync data are not shared with them.

Weather data

Forecasts are powered by Apple Weather through WeatherKit. Weather alerts and attribution links may open provider pages in your browser.
